[LOG] 12/12/08, Breakroom

Characters: Akanishi Jin(ko), Kamenashi Kazuya
Location and date: Breakroom
Rating: ?
Warning: ?
Summary: Head Nurse meets ex-patient
Status: incomplete

Jin wandered down the hallway, glad to be done for the moment. He was going to relax for a bit, get a nice lunch, perhaps bug Tatsuya, and then head back to work.

He checked over his clipboard as he walked, crossing off yet another name of a patient who had been treated and left. Crossing out the name reminded him of the other patients who had left. His mind wandered back to one in particular. Kame-chan. He sighed a little at the thought of the young man who had been so sweet and confused.

Worse had been how badly Toda had been after Kame had been discharged. It was sad how distraught the young nurse had been once the young man had left.

Jin wondered how Kame was doing now, out in the world, no longer locked up. He worried about the young man at times and hoped he was okay.

He entered the breakroom and made for the beverages. He started making a cup of tea. He glanced around idly as he was waiting for it to steep and froze.

"Kame-chan...?"

Kame had been waiting in the breakroom, finding it strange to be back at the hospital. He'd been discharged months ago, and had slowly managed to piece his life back together. He had his own apartment and was going back to school now, and things were starting to feel good again.

Still, he'd sort of missed the hospital, and he knew that what he had gone through could help other people, so he'd signed up as a volunteer. Apparently the idea of being lectured by a stranger didn't appeal to a lot of the patients, so a familiar face was a good idea, and he'd been given permission right away.

Kame had sat down in the breakroom to collect his thoughts over a cup of tea and a cookie, and only when he heard a familiar voice did he realize what was happening.

"Jinko-san." he said softly, and then he smiled widely, much more freely than he ever had while he had been a patient, "How are you?"
Jin blinked in surprise at the wide smile, one that he'd never seen Kame give anyone before. He smiled back instinctively, taking a step forward towards Kame. Then another and another before he was standing next to the young man.

He reached out and just brushed a lock of Kame's hair. "It's grown," he said softly, smiling at the memory of the Kame from before.
"Yeah." Kame said quietly, not expecting the touch, but he didn't shirk away from it like before.

"You think it looks nice? The hairdresser said it was in style..." he rambled a little before he smiled again, sheepishly this time, "You still look as pretty as I remember." he admitted.
Jin smiled a little more naturally at how Kame didn't flinch away like he would have before. "It looks very nice," he said softly. "It suits you."

He smiled again and flushed just a little. "Thank you," he said happily. "I'm glad Kame-chan remembers me as pretty."
"I'm glad you think so." Kame nodded. He'd actually only had his hair styled this way for a week or so, and it was much better than when he had just let the length go wild.

"I remember you as a lot of things." he laughed softly, "Maybe Jinko-san should sit down and have tea with me?" he asked, tilting his head slightly.
"It'll be longer than mine soon." Jin teased lightly, smiling uncontrollably at seeing his ex-patient.

He looked over to his tea and nodded before hurrying over to get it. He grabbed a cookie and joined Kame at the table. He looked into that face and smiled again. "So what brings you here?" he asked curiously.
"Not that long." Kame teased back, chuckling.

"Oh, I'm volunteering." he explained with a nod, sipping his tea calmly, "Talking to patients. I guess they're looking for people that are... the man on the phone said a 'success story' but that's a little too corny." he shrugged.
Jin shook his head and smiled. "No, I think Kame-chan is a success story," he said. "You look so much better now than before."

He took in Kame's appearance. The confidence that hadn't been there before, the far more relaxed nature. "You look matured now," he said. "More comfortable with yourself." He smiled. "I like it."
"The phrase just sounds funny." Kame insisted stubbornly. He didn't believe in giving himself that much credit just yet when he still had a lot more to do.

But having Jinko say that made him smile again, and blush.

"Thank you." he said softly, "I guess living by myself has made me mature? And doing schoolwork..." he added, breaking his cookie into pieces meticulously. It was one of the few quirks he still had to get rid of - whenever he got something sweet, he divided it and ate it horribly slowly like he wouldn't get one again, much as the situation had been in the hospital.
Jin shook his head. "You are a success, Kame-chan, being able to pull yourself through this," he insisted.

He smiled a little as he noticed the cookie breaking and he snuck a hand out to steal a piece on purpose. "Living by yourself does make you mature," he agreed, nibbling one the piece with an impish look.
"Jinko-san has been working on flattery since the last time we talked." Kame said, amused. He ate one of the cookie pieces, not minding too much that Jinko had taken one, but he wanted to tease the nurse.

"Hey," he pouted, "You're supposed to ask." he reminded, and he took the little piece that Jinko was nibbling on and then popped it past his own lips with a smile.
Jin chuckled and shook his head. "People flatter me, not the other way around," he replied with a mischevious grin.

He was surprised when Kame took the piece out of his hand, not having expected that. He held up his own cookie. "I'll let you break mine up?" he offered.
"Hm, I can't argue much with that." Kame acquiesced. He grinned and broke up Jinko's cookie to be fair, licking off the few stray crumbs that clung to his fingers.

"There." he nodded, "It's fair now."
Jin chuckled again at the agreement. He laughed in delight as Kame broke up his cookie.

"Kame-chan is just as possessive over his sweets as I remember," he teased, unable to resist reaching out and wiping some crumbs off the corner of Kame's mouth. "Perhaps even more so."
"I'll always be fond of sweets." Kame explained, staying still when Jinko brushed the crumbs away. He smiled at the gesture, pleased.

"So..." he said softly, "How has it been since I left?" he asked curiously, wanting to know the nurse's point of view.
Jin smiled and nodded. "I know you will," he said, remembering all the sweets that Kame ate.

He thought about it for a moment, putting a hand under his chin to prop it up on the table idly. "Pi's missed you," he said. "So has Toda-san and your other friends. Everyone else has been pretty much the same, getting a little better day by day."
"I see. I was hoping to talk to Tomo-kun soon." Kame said eagerly, nodding. He cringed a little, though, at the mention of Erika. He hadn't handled that well, he knew. He'd never said no to a girl before like that, but he'd needed to. It just wasn't going to work.

"And you?" he asked, "How much has Jinko-san missed me?"
Jin noticed the cringe at the mention of Toda's name and wondered a little, but said nothing.

He smiled a little and nodded. "Of course I did," he said. "It's been very quiet without Kame-chan around."
"That's just a way of saying I'm loud." Kame answered wryly, taking a long sip of tea before he sighed.

"I missed you." he said plainly, honestly, a smile on his face that was proably the first charming attempt at flirtation he'd tried with the nurse with total confidence, "So it's very nice to see you again."
Jin laughed and shook his head. "You were never loud. But without your presence, it's seemed quieter."

He flushed just a little at the honest comment and the smile. "Mou, Kame-chan is teasing me. I know you didn't like me making you do all sorts of things," he replied, a little flustered.
"Well... sometimes no, I didn't like it." Kame admitted with a nod, "But you were doing your job. And the fact it was you made me end up liking it on some level, no matter what was happening." he added, shrugging his shoulders.

Part of his recovery had involved being honest about his feelings with himself, not worrying so much of how other people judged and percieved him.

"I always liked Jinko-san very, very much." Kame said quietly, and he stood up to make himself another cup of tea, flushing a bit but touching Jinko's shoulder gently as he passed to do so.
Jin blinked at Kame's answer. "Kame-chan...is teasing me," he said, pushing on Kame's shoulder lightly. "You did it because you wanted to get better."

He blinked again, eyes going wide, at Kame's answer. He remembered from before their conversation about this...did Kame still like him? He ate a piece of cookie absently as he waited for Kame to come back.

"Kame-chan..." he said softly. "I..."
"Right... but I knew getting better meant being able to interact with you." Kame countered still as he made another cup of tea. He resisted taking another cookie and sat back down at the table a few moments later, blowing over the hot tea to cool it a little.

"Yes, Jinko-san?" he asked, since the nurse hadn't finished the sentence.
Jin felt a little flustered. Kame still liked him? After all this time? He shook his head internally. It was probably still a phase.

"I'm glad to see you again," he said simply. "From the other side of the equation, as it were."
"Me too." Kame nodded. He wasn't sure if Jinko was flustered, but he was getting some of the same signals that the girls sometimes gave him when he went to cram school.

"Good to know you haven't been dreading seeing me again." he teased, enjoying another piece of cookie.
